In 1890, Robert Gardner & Co. was a prominent firm of lithographers and ornamental printers based at 52 North Frederick Street, Glasgow. Established in 1854, the company was highly regarded for its technical expertise in chromolithography and "photo-process" work, with its productions reaching markets globally. In 1893, three years after this booklet was published, Dingley wrote Touchers and rubs on ye anciente royale game of bowles, published by Bryce. In 1899, David Bryce and Son published For Pen and Pencil Jottings with illustrations by Dingley.
