The book includes introductory words by Don Etherington, Jonathan Tremblay (President of ARA Canada), and Maureen Clapperton (Director, Miriam & J. Robert Ouimet Library, HEC Montreal), and an essay by John MacKrell. In addition to color illustrations and descriptions of the bindings in the exhibition, the catalogue also shows bindings not in the exhibition, as well as custom bindings by friends, students, and colleagues for his earlier book Book Binding and Conservation: A Sixty Year Odyssey of Art and Craft. Don Etherington began bookbinding at the age of thirteen and went on to study at the London School of Printing. He has held positions at the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence, The Library of Congress, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin, and Information Conservation, Inc. The collection which consists of art and books about nature was formed as a result of a gift from the descendants of Mcilhenny of Avery Island in Louisiana, owned by the family since 1813. Aggiungi al carrelloStunning mixed media etching by the Canadian painter and printmaker known for his works on human nature and form, specifically etchings and engravings. This piece was included in the 1991 Susan Conway Carroll Galleries exhibition of Etchings and Design Bindings by Bougie and renowned binders Monique Lallier and Don Etherington.…It appears Bougie printed these for Lallier and Etherington's use as greetings, here being sent with a warm sentiment to Southern California binder, Mel Kavin of Kater-Crafts. A lovely, bibliophilic item. 24x16cm bifolium of handmade cream stock, gravure by Louis-Pierre Bougie impressed on front, numbered 39/50 and signed in 1991. Inside is an holograph note from Lallier and Etherington to Mel Kavin, signed by both and with their address label adhered, dated in 2003. Few faint marginal smudges and light bumps else near fine.
