Die Nationalsozialisten beriefen sich auf die mittelalterliche Reichstradition Nürnbergs, die sie als ihr Erbe ansahen. Deshalb wurde auch die romantische Altstadt als Kulisse in die Inszenierungen einbezogen. An die nationalsozialistische Umgestaltung Nürnbergs erinnern zahlreiche Gebäude, die den Krieg überstanden haben und noch heute das Stadtbild bestimmen. Das betrifft nicht nur das ehemalige Reichsparteitagsgelände, sondern auch die Innenstadt und die äußeren Stadtviertel. Militärische Einrichtungen und Verwaltungszentralen, Schulen und Kirchen, Wohnsiedlungen und Bunker berichten von der nationalsozialistischen Vergangenheit der fränkischen Metropole. Der Stadtführer stellt 40 repräsentative Beispiele damaliger Architektur vor. Er macht auf verborgene Spuren aufmerksam und zeigt, welche Hinterlassenschaften des Dritten Reichs im Stadtgebiet noch zu sehen sind. Anhand der Bauten werden die intendierten politischen Botschaften und die propagandistischen Absichten erläutert. Historische Fotos zeigen den ursprünglichen Zustand.
