Seit 150 Jahren ist das Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum (CSEL, Universität Salzburg) um die Erforschung und im Besonderen um die Edition lateinischer patristischer Texte der Spätantike bemüht. Der vorliegende Sammelband stellt die Bandbreite philologischer Arbeit, wie sie am CSEL und in dessen Rahmen heute geleistet wird, exemplarisch dar: Er umfasst einerseits Beiträge zu unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Editionstätigkeit des CSEL, die von Fragen zur Methodik des Edierens bis zur Präsentation neuer Ergebnisse zu einem bisher verloren geglaubten spätantiken Evangelienkommentar aus der ersten Hälfte des 4. Jahrhunderts (Fortunatian von Aquileia) reichen. Andererseits werden neue textphilologische, im weitesten Sinn interpretatorische Ansätze zu Fragen der spätantiken patristischen Literatur vorgestellt. Februar 2024 jährte sich die Einrichtung des Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum durch die Wiener Akademie der Wissenschaften im Jahre 1864 zum 160. Mal. Das CSEL wurde begründet, um dem Thesaurus linguae Latinae wissenschaftlich fundierte und kritisch berichtigte Editionen der lateinischen christlichen Autoren zur Verfügung zu stellen. Seitdem sind mehr als 100 Bände (sowie zahlreiche Bände Extra Seriem) erschienen, seit dem 150. Jahr (2014) publiziert bei De Gruyter. Die Reihe Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum (CSEL) umfasst philologisch abgesicherte, kritische Editionen lateinischer Texte der christlichen Spätantike von Tertullian bis Beda Venerabilis und erschließt damit Werke der patristischen Epoche des lateinischen Westens für den Zeitraum vom späten zweiten bis in das frühe achte Jahrhundert für alle jene Wissenschaftsdisziplinen, die sich mit unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Spätantike befassen. The CSEL was founded in order to provide the Thesaurus linguae Latinae with scholarly sound and critically corrected editions of Latin Christian authors. Since then, more than 100 volumes (as well as numerous volumes Extra Seriem) have been published, since the 150th year (2014) by De Gruyter. The Corpus Scriptorum Ecclesiasticorum Latinorum (CSEL) is an academic series that publishes critical editions of Latin works by late-antique Christian authors from the time of the late 2nd century until the beginning of the 8th century. The editions are prepared in cooperation with internationally renowned experts according to modern editorial techniques and are meant to serve as textual basis for scholarly disciplines dealing with Late Antiquity. The volumes are published by the scientific institution 'CSEL', which was founded in 1864 by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna and which is part of the University of Salzburg since 2012. In addition, monographs on topics related to the Latin patristic period and conference proceedings are published at irregular intervals (Extra Seriem).
