Esso compendia tutte le monete coniate in Italia da Napoleone Console a Vittorio Emanuele III, nostro amato Sovrano e la descrizione avviene in ordine cronologico per ogni singola zecca. Con questa nostra pubblicazione desideriamo dare la preferenza alla trattazione delle monete italiane riflettenti il sistema decimale (cioè dal 1800 fino ai giorni nostri) essendo questo a nostro parere uno dei periodi che maggiormente deve interessare i vecchi ed i nuovi cultori di numismatica, sia per quanto riguarda la varietà e bellezza dei conii, sia per la qualità e la rilevante quantità degli esemplari che per ragioni, necessità e circostanze, non ancora ben note, si sono resi oggi rari e pregievoli. Il nostro intento è diretto a fornire i collezionisti di monete, Agenti di cambio, Banche, Orefici, Antiquari, ecc. di una vera guida pratica per mezzo della quale riesca loro facile un controllo esatto della ricerca, acquisto o vendita delle monete comprese in quest'epoca, o quando si desidera identificarle, classificarle o valutarne la rarità ed il pregio. Non potendo per le attuali condizioni del mercato monetario fissarne a priori il prezzo, il chè sarebbe cosa troppo vaga e relativa, ci limitiamo a determinarne la rarità o meno con i seguenti segni convenzionali .
