Collection comprised of: (1837) The History of Philosophy, from the Earliest Periods by William Enfield - very scarce edition; (1845) The True Intellectual System of the Universe: Volumes I-III by Ralph Cudworth - commercially scarce edition. The History of Philosophy is the William Enfield translation of Johann Jakob Brucker's significant, foundational history of early philosophical schools and figures. The True Intellectual System of the Universe is the major work of seventeenth-century Anglican theologian Ralph Cudworth, who famously opposed the views of Thomas Hobbes. Complete in three volumes, this set also includes a number of notes by the influential German church historian Johann Lorenz von Mosheim, translated into English by John Harrison. Uniformly bound in full calf. Bookplate of Edward Fest Kelly to the front paste down of each work. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to occasional loss of leather, scattered marking, and the beginnings of cracking to the front joint of Volume II of Cudworth. Internally, firmly bound, a little weaker between the title page and following page to Volume I of Cudworth. Reasonably bright and clean with heavier spotting to the first and last few pages of each work. A number of pencil annotations also towards the first few pages of each work. Good. Not Stated (illustratore). book.…
