Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Fair. This is a copy of Dr. L. Wieger's "Moral Tenets and Customs in China" translated from the originaly French by L. Davrout, S.J. Dr. Leon Wieger was a French Jesuit doctor who served as a missionary at the Catholic mission in Hejian. He published numerous works in French on the languages and cultures… of China. This copy appears to have belonged to Annie Gray Buchan (1895-1988), having "Annie G. Buchan" written on the front fly leaf. She was a nurse who worked for the London Missionary Society. Upon being sent to China in 1925, she ultimately served for fourteen years as the matron of the Siaochang Hospital in Tehchow. Missionaries were forced to leave as a result of the Japanese invasion, but Buchan returned to China to care for a sick friend. Upon the death of her friend, she was put into a Japanese internment camp, until being released at the end of the war. She returned to Scotland to recover, but chose to return to China. This copy is in Fair condition. It appears to be in the original binding, which has suffered some damage where the spine meets the front cover. The front hinge is cracked, causing the front cover to be loose. There is a fair bit of wear and discolouration to the fabric covering the boards, as well as some separation of the spine at the bottom of the back cover. There is also a small gouge out of the back cover. The edges of the covers show wear and some damage and the corners are bumped. Internally the book is in excellent condition, with all pages still tightly bound.
