Anne Sewell Young was Professor of Astronomy at Mount Holyoke College who is credited with inspiring Helen Sewell Hogg to pursue a career as an astronomer, after Sewell attended a field trip organized by Young to Connecticut in 1925 to view a total solar eclipse. The book is from the estate of Kate Bracher( MHC 1960) who was Professor of Astronomy at Whitman College. The book is bound in blue cloth with title and illustration in black on the front cover. Corners and spine caps are bumped and there are short tears along the joints with some fraying. The front hinge is cracked exposing the webbing at the full title page, but the text block is firm. There are notations and marginalia throughout the book and the text and illustrations are generally clean and unmarked. Previous owner has tipped in notations in tiny script here and there throughout the book. There are also clippings from science newletters loosely laid in. A clipping titled" Splitting of Primeval Star May Have Made Solar System" has been pasted on the back free endpaper. Please see all images.
