Rossman describe each of the state's 130 s…pecies, providing information on each animal's life history as well as feeding, behavioral, and reproductive habits. They also discuss the taxonomy and taxonomic problems of the various species and provide the keys for the identification of the animals. Eugene C. Beckham's twenty-four exquisitely rendered color plates highlight each specis' significant structural features and markings. The book also contains a number of line drawings and more than one hundred detailed distribution maps that show the known localities of each species within the staet. Dundee and Rossman provide a brief history of herpetology in Louisiana, and offer useful information on caring for amphibians and reptiles in captivity as well as on collecting and preserving specimens.
