Erschien zur gleichnaimigen Ausstellung im Fotomuseum Winterhtur und als Teil der Ausstellung 'Gesucht - Avis de recherche' im Museum für Kommunikation in Bern. - "Carl Durheims Porträtfotografien von Heimatlosen und Nicht-Sesshaften - alle im Auftrag des damaligen schweizerischen Generalanwalts 1852/53 aufgenommen, anschliessend lithographiert und in Büchern gebunden an die Polizeistellen weitergegeben - stellen in der Schweiz, wenn nicht gar weltweit, die ersten erkennungsdienstlichen Polizeifotografien dar. Vom November 1852 bis Ende 1853 stellte der Berner Lithograph und Pionierfotograf Carl Durheim (1810-1890) fotografische Porträts von in der Schweiz lebenden, aber nicht sesshaften und deshalb "heimatlosen" Menschen her. Diese standardisierten erkennungsdienstlichen Aufnahmen sollten die Zwangseinbürgerung, Zwangsassimilierung oder Zwangsausschaffung der betroffenen Bevölkerungsgruppen, zum Beispiel der Fahrenden, unterstützen helfen - Massnahmen, die 1850 vom jungen schweizerischen Bundesstaat in die Wege geleitet worden waren. Dieser einmalige Bestand an Salzpapierfotografien, der ethnologisch, staatspolitisch und fotografisch höchst interessant ist, lagert im Bundesarchiv der Eidgenossenschaft.
