Dziga Vertov, uno de los creadores más importantes de la vanguardia cinematográfica, fue uno de los primeros cineastas rusos en usar técnicas de animación y desarrollar ciertos principios fundamentales del montaje en el cine. Para Vertov el montaje es el alma de la película, el motor de su estética y de su sentido. Su teoría del Kino-Pravda (Cine-Verdad), inspiró futuras teorías y prácticas en una área fundamental del cine: el contacto directo del ojo de la cámara con el evento filmado, la verdadera realidad, al contrario de la ficción, que necesita del plató. A diferencia de Eisenstein, para él la idea lo determina todo; no escapa al movimiento de la Historia y es expresión de un ideal humanista que se dinamiza en la construcción de una sociedad justa. En los años sesenta, el Grupo Dziga Vertov de Jean-Luc Godard subvirtió la representación cinematográfica y el modo de producción de los filmes. No bastaba con llevar la política al cine sino que debía replantearse la función significante del medio. Los guiones contenidos en este volumen permiten situar con precisión las proposiciones políticas y cinematográficas del Grupo. LIBRO.

Materialet - fotografier, negativ, manuskript, teckningar, affischer, personalia - kommer nästan uteslutande ur hans efterlevande makas, fru Elizaveta Svilova-Vertovas, arkiv. Utställningen har sammanställts av Staatliches Filmarchiv der DDR i samarbete med dr Sergej Drobasjenko - dokumentärfilmprofessor vid Konsthögskolan i Moskva. Fru Svilova-Vertovas samlingar har kompletterats med visst material som funnits i Svenska Filminstitutets Filmarkiv och även med bidrag från Österreichisches Filmmuseum, Wien. Utställningen är den första som tillägnats Dziga Vertov och jag ber härmed få framföra ett varmt tack till alla som bistått med sina kunskaper och tjänster. Ett särskilt tack går till A.
