Elephant folio folders in brown stiff paper boards with brown lettering and illustration, and brown cloth spines. Singe tie to fore edge of each volume. [iii]+24 plates per volume, laid into stiff folder. German. 24 B/W photogravures per volume (48 total plates numbered sequentially). An incomplete reading copy. Both volumes have toned and lightly soiled boards with paper at corners chipped, revealing underlying cloth. Paper chipped along spine cloth, as well. Spine tips frayed and joint cloth split, and lower half of volume one cloth lacking. Ribbon ties torn and largely lacking. Volume one has a remnant of pink paper adhered to front pastedown. Pages toned and a bit brittle, with edges quite frayed and chipped. Plate #24 lacking. Folder and title page of the second volume were once labeled "Erste Lieferung," but "erste" has in both cases been blocked out and corrected to stamped "dritte." Besides this, the plates make no indication of volume, and the index of volume 1 lists 24 plates while that of volume 2 lists all 48. It seems possible that the second volume contains the contents of Series A Volume 2, laid into the first folder of Series B (Series A and B comprise four total volumes, presumed sequentially numbered).
