"The present proceedings, which are contained in fos. 159r-175v of the register of Archbishop Warham of Canterbury, are one of the most informative records of Lollard trials in England on the eve of the Reformation, certainly the fullest from Kent. 53 suspects from the diocese were brought before the archbishop between April 1511 and June 1512. The large majority of them abjured their errors. Most of the abjurations were recorded in full, together with the penances imposed, which were very detailed. 5 of the accused refused to abjure and were condemned as relapsed or abdurate heretics. In these 5 cases the depositions of witnesses were recorded and they provide further information about the organisation and dissemination of Lollardy in the area".
