Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. An influential American popular edition of the prophecies of Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus), presenting the original Old French quatrains alongside Roberts' English translations and his individual interpretations. Roberts' work first appeared in 1947 and was repeatedly revised during his lifetime; this substantially updated 1982 New Revised Edition was prepared after his death by his daughter Lee Roberts Amsterdam and her husband, Harvey Amsterdam. Lee's dated introduction explains that they continued Roberts' research, updated interpretations in light of later events, and added an index. The volume includes introductory material from the earlier editions, a biographical section on Nostradamus, the twelve "Centuries," and an extensive index. The photograph of Nostradamus reproduced in the biographical section is identified as coming from the Henry C. Roberts Collection. The copyright page is particularly useful bibliographically: it records Roberts copyrights for 1947, 1949, 1962, 1964, 1966, 1968, and 1969, followed by the 1982 copyright of Lee Roberts Amsterdam and Harvey Amsterdam. More importantly, the printing line reads 15 14 13 12 (12th printing of this edition.) Near Fine / Very Good+ dust jacket. Bright blue textured cloth boards remain clean and attractive, with strong gilt spine lettering, firm square binding, and clean interior. A small vintage $6.50 price sticker remains on the front free endpaper. The original $12.95 unclipped dust jacket shows light rubbing and edge wear, with small creases/nicks principally around the spine ends and upper edges; overall unusually presentable for a jacket that is frequently encountered worn or absent. No ownership writing or other markings observed. Collector's Note There is a nice bit of publishing history hidden in this otherwise familiar title. This is effectively a family-maintained Nostradamus project. Roberts' daughter states in her 1982 introduction that, after her father's death, she and Harvey Amsterdam continued his research and revised his interpretations for a new generation. Roberts himself was not merely an occult writer: the jacket describes him as a lifelong dealer/collector of old and rare books who assembled what it calls one of the great collections of early Nostradamus editions. Thus his translations grew partly from bibliographical collecting as well as his interest in prophecy. Jacket illustration by Mark Watts (illustratore). …
