Hardback. Condizione: Good to Very Good. First Edition. 1898. First edition thus (Centenary edition). viii, 207pp., a frontispiece portrait and 10 black and white illustrations. Henry Scott Riddell (1798-1870) was a Scottish Borders poet and songwriter. His best known work is probably "Scotland Yet", one of the most popular of S…cottish songs. This collection of his poems was published to mark the centenary of his birth, and includes a memoir by W.S. Crockett. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards and noticeable white damp spotting or staining on the front board. The spine ends are bumped with a split of about 1/4" in the cloth at the bottom of the spine and damage with a little loss to the cloth at the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few light marks from finger smudges, etc., and a little scattered light foxing. The front endpapers have a thin split down the spine gutter and a name has been written on the front free endpaper.

From Net; S.H.A.H. is the Rev. Sydenham Henry Augustus Hervey born on 20 December 1846, in Ickworth House, Suffolk, England, his father, Right Rev. Arthur Charles Hervey. Ickworth House was built between 1795 and 1829, an estate owned by the Hervey family, Marquesses of Bristol. In 1956, the house, park, and a large endowment were given to the National Trust in lieu of death duties. The last Hervey living at Ickworth, the drug fueled Frederick William John Augustus Hervey 7th Marquess of Bristol sold the remaining lease back to the National Trust, after blowing his £35 million inheritance, mostly on cocaine & due to his drug abuse. Blackwell, Bookseller, 50 & 51, Broad St., Oxford); the gilt spine lettering on each volume includes the "Bohn's Libraries" imprint at the base]. (Bohn's Standard Library) Series (frontis. portrait of Pepys in Volume I) A decent-looking set of this classic first-person account of life in 17th-century England, per the subtitle: "Transcribed by the late Rev. Mynors Bright, M.A., from the shorthand manuscript in the Pepysian Library, Magdalene College, Cambridge." The following publication statement appears in the front of each volume: "This edition was first published in 10 vols., demy 8vo, 1893-1899, in which form it has been frequently reprinted. Reissued in 8 vols., crown 8vo, 1904. Added to Bohn's Standard Library, 1913." Blue hardback binding 22 x 18cm., good, minor ageing, minor dent rear base & minor edge damp staining… rear. Contents mostly very good, one plate detached with bottom edge damage not affecting plate area. Inside front cover, stress to contents, Inside front with 1937 gift inscription (both with Jermyn in names), with frontice & title page just hanging in. pages mostly very good and clean, the rare odd minor mark. Also loose with this book are 3 handwritten letters with extra information. From Net; S.H.A.H. is the Rev. Sydenham Henry Augustus Hervey born on 20 December 1846, in Ickworth House, Suffolk, England, his father, Right Rev. Arthur Charles Hervey. Ickworth House built between 1795 and 1829, an estate owned by the Hervey family, Marquesses of Bristol. In 1956, the house, park, and a large endowment were given to the National Trust in lieu of death duties. The last Hervey living at Ickworth, the drug fuelled Frederick William John Augustus Hervey 7th Marquess of Bristol sold the remaining lease back to the National Trust, after blowing his £35 million inheritance, most on cocaine & due to his drug abuse.
