A great, almost spotlessly clean copy! Solidly and tightly bound, essentially and nearly flawless copy with minimal internal and external wear and use. Copy with crisp pages, spotlessly clean text, and light shelf wear. Smooth covers. Very mild foxing on page edges, not affecting text.

Uniform matching first edition hard back binding in publisher's original russet cloth covers, gilt title lettering and volume details to the spines, floral end leaves. 8vo. 9½'' x 6½''. Contains [xxxiii] [corrections leaf] 724; 866 printed pages of text with numerous monochrome text illustrations throughout the two volumes. Belonging to Henry Lehman, founder of Lehman Brothers financial services, with his name to the top of each title page. Neatly repaired fraying of the cloth to the spine edges, rear hinge to volume II is cracked, corners worn through to the boards, lots of ink and pencil notes to the margins, probably by Lehman.
