In 1994-1997, the Yale University Khabur Basin Project excavated Tell Ziyadeh on the Middle Khabur River of Northeastern Syria. This monograph describes two pioneering settlements: fifth millennium BC Ubaid and early third millennium. It discusses the research programme and strategies; reviews the modern and palaeoenvironments; and provides separate chapters describing the various excavation areas, as well as the ceramic, lithic, faunal and botanical remains found in them. Two chapters describe small-scale excavations at Mashnaqa and Kuran, sites with occupation histories paralleling Ziyadeh. The monograph concludes with a discussion of the immigration by fifth-millennium Ubaid settlers into a virgin landscape in the Khabur, and the gradual transition into a widespread Late Chalcolithic tradition. It provides a reconstruction of the realities of life in these small homesteads, which comprised a society of closely interacting settlements and remained viable for hundreds of years before moving elsewhere, as simultaneously as they had initially arrived.

This work collects all twelve issues of the Newark Beeperiodical, from March 1838 to February 1839, into one full cloth bound volume.Very Scarce.TheNewark Bee was one of the earliest literary magazines to be published in the Newark-on-Trent area of Nottinghamshire and is of historical interest as evidence of the flourishing of the periodical press in the nineteenth century. It was issued monthly at one penny by the same local Ridge family firm who had famously published Byron's first two collections of poetry. Its editor, S. Reynolds Hole, was an English Anglican priest, author, and horticulturalist renowned for his expertise with roses. This volume gives a good impression of the discerning nature the Newark Bee, containing numerous poems, prose excerpts, translations, reviews, and critical essays. In full cloth binding with embossed decoration to the boards. Externally, generally smart with fading to the cloth at the spine and rubbing, heaviest towards the fore edge. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities. Previous contemporary owner's neat inscription to recto of the front first free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound with generally bright, clean pages, barring light age toning and the odd spot, concentrated towards the endpapers. Very Good Indeed. book.

Condizione: Fine. Recently rebound in quarter scarlet leather, matching red sides, gilt title to the spine. Folio 16'' x 11½''. The original edition engraved on copper plates by William Hole, was published in 1611. It was again printed from the same plates in 1613, with the addition of a dedication. Subsequent impressions (always from the original plates) appeared in 1635, 1650, and 1659. The Parthenia claims the merit of having been the first musical work printed from copper plates; and example that was generally followed, in regard to instrumental music, both in this country and on the continent. Contains half-title, title-page, facsimile page of the original from 1611, illustrated title-page, dedication, 3 page introduction with vignette above the first leaf, 50 pages of score. Just minor spotting to the introductory pages, otherwise in Fine condition, superb condition copy. Member of the P.B.F.A. SHEET MUSIC.
