Hardcover. Condizione: Good. A significant example of 19th-century British periodical literature, "The Comic Magazine" from 1836 is edited by the renowned "Figaro in London," a pseudonym closely associated with Gilbert à Beckett and his influential satirical weekly newspaper. This volume captures the sharp wit and social commentary prevalent during the Regency-Victorian transitional era, reflecting the humor and societal concerns of the period. The magazine features numerous striking woodcut-style illustrations throughout, satirizing various aspects of daily life, politics, and social customs, including topics like justice, family dynamics, and public figures. The illustrations depict humorous and grotesque scenes, caricatures, and provide incisive visual commentary on contemporary society. Condition: Exterior - The book is bound in dark blue/green full cloth, exhibiting notable wear consistent with its age. The spine displays gilt lettering for "COMIC MAGAZINE" but is heavily frayed with significant loss to the cloth along the hinges and spine ends. The boards show general rubbing, discoloration, and scuffing. Edges are bumped and rubbed, with material loss, particularly at the corners and along the board edges. A faint inscription, "ALV," is present on the lower right corner of the front board. Interior - The interior pages exhibit widespread heavy foxing and browning throughout, consistent with the paper quality of the period. The text and all illustrations remain clear and legible despite the toning. No personal inscriptions or additional markings are present on the internal pages. There are no tears, stains, creases, or repairs to the pages. The binding remains intact, holding all pages securely.…
