Chamberlain (1947 Hardcover without Dust Jacket) This book 8 represents the culmination of grammar school literature text series "Beacon Lights of Literature." This book was prepared without regard to the state in which the subject was to be taught. Each section has an additional reading lists, biographic sketches of the authors, Questions & Exercises regarding the reading, and use of footnotes for unfamiliar phrases and words. There are 73 readings with 23 full-page line illustrations. None of the illustrators are named. Only one author was noticed to have written 2 readings. xviii + 749pp + 1pp ad. Under 8" tall 8vo Hardcover has rust-colored cloth boards with black lettering & designs, but no DJ. Spine still attached, although covers worn through cloth. Aggiungi al carrelloHard Cover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. green cloth damp-damaged at base, front and rear, undated odd volume, part of a set of 30 volumes issued in three sets of ten volumes each, targeted presumably at the emigrant Irish in the United States. The year of issue is not stated, but seems to be, on internal evidence, 1902 (that's the last reference to publications by W.B. Yeats. This volume consists largely of photogravure plates of Irish people and places, monuments and symbols that would appeal to the emigrant. Among the portraits is John Redmond, MP, who was one of the editors of the series. Interesting mainly as a collection of photos, which are generally clean, regardless of the damage mentioned to the boards, and the shakiness of the binding generally (easily repaired if wished). Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
