Promotional booklet issued by Doran, publishers of Burke's novel of London, The Sun in Splendour, with a note on the book by Charles H. Towne (the London edition from Constable was published the following year). Thomas Burke (1886-1945) was a British novelist, journalist, and poet whose 1916 collection Limehouse Nights codified many of the twentieth century stereotypes of Chinatown in film and literature (D.W. Griffith and Charlie Chaplin made films from its stories). He was the consummate London man, and other works include Twinkletoes, A Tale of Limehouse (1918), The Outer Circle: Rambles in Remote London (1922), and The London Spy: A Book of Town Travels (1922), as well as The Book of the Inn (1927), The Real East End (1932),Will Someone Lead me to a Pub? (1936), and Dinner is Served: or, Eating Round the World in London (1937). Under the pseudonym, Paul Pry, Burke wrote For Your Convenience (1937), a pioneering work in gay literature. Olive green illustrated paper wrappers. Light wear to wrappers, some spotting. Very good.
