Hardcover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. DESCRIPTION: Oblong 5 1/2 H x 7 5/8 W inches (14 H x 19.6 W cm). Limited edition of 100 copies for sale. Text set in Van Dijck roman and Italic, printed in black and blue on Zerkall Book white mouldmade paper. Illustrated with numerous small wood engravings printed from the wood (all but one) from fourteen artists and wood engravers, including a delightful tri-partite frontispiece by Andy English showing the press building and two bears hard at work at the press. Signed on the verso page opposite the colophon page by the Barbarians (Crispin and Jan Elsted) alongside their printer's devices. Quarter bound in grey morocco with bear paw embossed into lower leather strip, patterned paper with grey bear paws over boards. Housed in a matching grey silk slipcase. Book is protected with a clear archival Grafix dura Lar dust wrapper. ______CONDITION: Both book and slipcase are in fine ("as new") condition.____DISCUSSION: : This book was issued to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Barbarian Press. The question of why and how the relationship between the press and bears is answered, followed by a display of all the press's ursine-derived devices over the prior 40 years. An Afterword: 'Chiefly concerning Printer's Marks' concludes the edition. In reality, however, this slim volume is as much a tribute to many of the marvelous artists and wood engravers the Elsteds have worked with over the 40 years. On the verso page, each artist is titled, his/her contributions to the Barbarian Press bibliography are listed below their name, accompanied by their own bear wood engraving, A discussion of each artist and reminiscence of past work together with the Press follows on the recto page._____NOTE: Domestic shipping cost with USPS media mail is $12.00. International shipping cost with USPS International Priority Mail is $40 to Canada and the United Kingdom . Shipping to more distant locations may incur additional cost. Signed by Author(s).

Softcover. Condizione: Fine. Softcover. One of 120 copies Writes the press: Two of our Loose Canons pamphlets featuring neglected poets will be published in 2025: the first, a second edition of the poetry of Elinor Wylie from our earlier version of Loose Canons One, is expanded from 6 poems to 18; Loose Canons Two features poems by Edwin Arlington Robinson, with a focus on his long dramatic monologue 'Ben Jonson Entertains a Man from Stratford'. This revival of the Loose Canons series is devoted to refreshng the reputations of once celebrated poets and poems that over time have become blurred by distance, overlooked, or simply ignored. As will be the case with later additions to the series, each of these issues is intended to give a concise overview of the style and concerns of the poet in question. All the pamphlets will be hand-set in various types from the best editions of the texts, and each will offer a brief biographical note with other information as necessary. They will be sewn into a variety of cover papers and will be of a uniform size. The Loose Canons series will continue intermittently, but dependably. We intend them to provide a mix of writers in English from England, Canada, and America, and we may possibly introduce some translations from other languages as the series gather strength. This volume is a gray textured paper softcover that is sewn into wraps of St. Armand Canal paper It is handset by Apollonia Elsted in Poliphilus and Blado with Caslon Antique for display and printed on Zerkall Cream Laid paper. The book was designed by Crispin Elsted, who also selected the poems. In fine condition. Measures 7.25 x 12 inches. Unpaginated [18 pages]. PRI/041825.
