Bainbridge's (company name Bainbridge & Co.) was a major department store in the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, it claimed to be the first true department store in the world, having begun recording weekly turnover separately by department in 1849. The store dates back to 1838, when Emerson Muschamp Bainbridge went into partnership with William Alder Dunn and opened a drapers and fashion shop in Newcastle's Market Street. At the time of its demise in 2002, the Bainbridge name was one of the longest continuously traded department store brands in the world. Contains 28 pp + covers. Bainbridge & Co. Ltd of Newcastle-on-Tyne Advertising Booklet from the era of 1912 to 1914 is a valuable piece of ephemera. This booklet contains advertisements and promotional materials from the company during that specific time period, providing a glimpse into the business practices and marketing strategies of the time. With its historical significance and potential rarity, this booklet is a unique artefact that can offer insights into the commercial landscape of Newcastle-on-Tyne in the early 20th century. It contains some fascinating photographs, giving an insight into pre first world war era including: Durham County Cricket Club, Northumberland County Cricket Club, Captains of the Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Newcastle United Football Club, Sunderland League Team, Golfers of the day, Lawn Tennis stars of the day and others. The thin narrow cloth around the spine has all but worn away leaving the boards loose. Scarce. Member of the P.B.F.A. NORTHUMBERLAND.
