In großzügiger Weise gehen sie von einem einfachen, einleuchtenden Prinzip und einigen allgemeinen Gesetzen aus und umreißen das umfangreiche Gebiet der Mimik und Physiognomik in knappen, aber klaren Zügen Das um 1800 meistgelesene Buch über Physiognomik waren die Fragmente Lavaters, der zwar viele Einzelheiten zusammengetragen hatte, sie aber in schwülstiger und tendenziöser Art verarbeitete. Ich habe Lavater in den Anmerkungen vielleicht zu oft zitiert, aber um so wohltuender berührt der Gegensatz des Schriftchens von Huschke. Man vermehre die Zitate aus Lavater um etwa das Doppelte, und man hat schon beinah alles, was aus den dickleibigen vier Bänden noch zu verwenden ist.
