Esso si basa sui principi e sui metodi della "dinamica dei sistemi", sviluppati in modo da corrispondere più direttamente alle esigenze ed alla cultura delle direzioni aziendali. li sistema MDS è costituito da:1) una "metodologia" per lo sviluppo, descrizione ed interpretazione di modelli di "simulazione dinamica"; 2) un "prodotto programma" per la generazione interattiva e la gestione di modelli su calcolatore. Ma gli obiettivi del volume trascendono quello di una presentazione approfondita e rigorosa di uno specifico sistema. Nel libro si illustrano i risultati di un lungo lavoro di ricerca e sperimentazione sui temi della pianificazione strategica, sui metodi e le tecniche di modellizzazione, sull'analisi organizzativa. L'integrazione interdisciplinare della ricerca (modellistica, informatica, analisi organizzativa e gestionale) è stata possibile grazie alla collaborazione fra Tema, Istituto Rso e Politecnico di Milano.
