August 1800 zu Braunschweig, besuchte die Gymnasien in Holzminden und Göttingen… und widmete sich an letzterem Orte den medicinischen Studien. Im Jahre 1823 promovirte er in Göttingen und erhielt durch seine Arbeit: "Commentatio de cachexiis et cacochymiis" (Göttingen 1823) den akademischen Preis. Nach mehrjährigen wissenschaftlichen Reisen habilitirte er sich in Göttingen 1825 für Physiologie, vergleichende Anatomie und gerichtliche Medicin. 1832 wurde er zum ausserordentlichen Professor ernannt. Er starb in Göttingen am 16. Februar 1881. Ausser dem von ihm editierten Lehrbuche der Augenheilkunde seines Vaters veröffentlichte er: "Beiträge zur Anatomie und Physiologie" (2 Lieferungen, Hannover 1829-1831) - "Einleitung in die Physiologie des Menschen" (Göttingen 1835) und verschiedene Uebersetzungen ausländischer naturwissenschaftlicher Werke."
