The author delves into the evolution of this practice from the simple addition of a god's symbol to the complex sculptural arrangements of later periods. Through meticulous analysis of literary and archaeological sources, the book sheds light on the motivations behind the dedication of these statues, exploring personal connections to deities, both real and imagined, as well as the broader social and political significance of such displays.
