Aggiungi al carrellohardcover. Condizione: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The year in which this first number of 'Annals of Life Insurance Medicine' goes to press happens to be the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Swiss Reinsurance Com pany's activity in the field of underwriting and reassuring those risks which later became known as 'substandard lives'. In retrospect, it is a far cry from the old days when life assurance proposals were either accepted or rejected on medical grounds to the modern principles and methods of rating substandard cases both medically and actuarially. It can be assumed that in the course of the last few decades solutions, or at least approxi mate solutions sufficiently accurate for practical purposes, have been found to most of the numerous and often rather tricky actuarial problems relating to substandard policies, adequate premiums and reserves. No Life Assurer to-day however can fail to recognize that actuarial skill may only be applied to of medical assessment. Even the lay under substandard life risks on the basis writer certainly realizes that the medical and statistical problems inherent in the underwriting of substandard risks are infinitely more complex than any actuarial consequences of a calculated or assumed extramortality. It is primarily this basic fact which has stimulated the Swiss Reinsurance Company's plans to intensify and develop its research work in the field of the medical assessment of substandard lives.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Frank Walts, John Sloan, Art Young, Glenn O. Coleman, Stuart Davis, Cornelia Barns, Randall Davey, George Bellows, Maurice Becker, A. Londoner, Elias Goldberg, Eugene Higgins (illustratore). 1st Edition. New York: The Masses Publishing Company, 1915. The June, 1915 issue (Volume VI, Number 9, whole number 49). Large Folio, illustrated stapled wraps, 27 pp. Very Good by any periodical standard; as the very inexpensively-produced budget-of-the-heart icon The Masses was, this example is certainly better than very good, by its own standard. Light crease the vertical length of cover; small nicks at front cover perimeter; larger chip at rear cover, lower left; modest toning to the remarkably healthy contents. See scans. Certainly one of the most seminal socio-political American publications of the last 200 years, The Masses was a collection of ideological art, opinion and reporting - usually contributed with little or no compensation - which strongly represented socialist / marxist values, but in a larger sense was representative of labor, women's rights, and radical left issues in general as those were at that time. Famous names of the era often contributed work, but the names of the regulars are themselves all now in history books. The now-timeless publication was shut down by the U.S. Government in 1918 on the basis of postal regulations, after two intense and ideologically-charged trials. Eastman and his sister, Crystal, then started The Liberator to carry on; after The Liberator closed its doors in 1926, The New Masses, under the primary leadership of Mike Gold, carried the radical flag. The Masses, as the first, is also the rarest. Text contributors to this issue of June, 1915 included Eastman, Carl Sandburg, Howard Brubaker, Harris Merton Lyon, Louis Untermeyer, Edmond McKenna, Elsie Clews Parsons, Frank Tanenbaum, Robert Carlton Brown, W.J. Robinson, Charles Grey, and Florence Kiper Frank. Art was contributed by Frank Walts, John Sloan, Art Young, Glenn O. Coleman, Stuart Davis, Cornelia Barns, Randall Davey, George Bellows, Maurice Becker, A. Londoner, Elias Goldberg, and Eugene Higgins, with Walts executing the front cover, and Davis the rear cover. Check out all of those names. An extraordinarily rare piece of American publishing and political history. l-lng2.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition, 4to, 12 pp., plus a list of artist members, a list of patrons and an original etching by Eugene Higgins, signed by him in pencil and dated 1917. The etching is entitled "Transferring the Pup" and measures 13.7 x 11.4 cm. We find no record of any other further published yearbooks by this group and this first annual yearbook as well as the etching are quite rare. The Library of Congress on-line catalog has no record of the yearbook and although they do acknowledge the existence of the etching they have not identified it as to year, etc. World Cat shows only one record, that being in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Thomas J. Watson Library. A very good plus copy showing a few age related light stains. The etching is fine. Signed by Illustrator(s).

First, Limited Edition. No. 876 of 999 hand-numbered copies. Author's inscription to front endpaper: "To Mr. Alfred Wiehl with compliments," signed, undated but apparently contemporary with publication. Octavo. Green cloth, titled in gilt; 231pp; frontispiece and three unnumbered leaves of plates. A tight, Near Fine copy, with just a trace of rubbing to the binding at corners and spine ends. Collection of short stories and philosophical vignettes by this somewhat enigmatic figure - a Russian emigré and revolutionary, a friend of Maxim Gorki and a disciple of Tolstoi, Narodny was forced into exile following his involvement in the Kronstadt Rebellion. He arrived in New York in 1906, in the company of Gorki; he involved himself in commercial ventures (at one point being denounced by the Russian Government for presenting himself as the head of the "Russian Chamber of Commerce"); subsequently, he was reputedly involved in the sale of American arms to the Bolsheviks. After the 1917 Revolution, Narodny attempted to establish himself in legitimate international trade under the rubric "The Russian-American Asiatic Corporation," though we can find no evidence the venture succeeded. The inscribee is possibly the New York restaurateur Alfred Wiehl (1847-1932), proprietor of a popular turn-of-the century lower-Manhattan eatery. Uncommon. SMITH (American Fiction) N-5. Signed.
