He also made a collection of plants from the Nilgiris in 1886-7, which is now held in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. An engaging work on the mountains and mountaineering routes of the Dolomites by L. Marion Davidson, introduced by the politician and climber Sir Melvill Beachcroft, with a chapter on the flora which can be found in this area by F. M. Spencer Thomson.
