Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of chess problem composition, focusing specifically on the British school of this art form. Explore the work of notable problemists, including those who were amongst the most celebrated in the late 19th century, with biographical sketches and illustrative problems, bringing to life the creative minds behind these intricate puzzles. The author provides a rich historical context for the British school, situating it within the broader chess world and comparing it to other influential schools of composition. Through in-depth analyses of the problems themselves, the book examines the strategic subtleties and aesthetic nuances that define this particular approach to chess composition. The book shines a light on the British school's quest for absolute perfection, highlighting its emphasis on beauty, difficulty, and originality, while rejecting the conventions of other schools. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the distinct characteristics of this school, including its avoidance of "dual" solutions, a common feature of Continental problems, and its preference for complexity and elegance. The book provides a compelling and insightful portrait of a unique and vibrant artistic expression within the world of chess. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
