Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. light brown hardbound 8vo. 8º (octavo). dustwrapper in protective plastic book jacket cover. fine cond. binding square & tight. covers clean. edges clean. contents free of markings. price clipped dustwrapper in near fine cond. has a 1cm tear front bottom flap edge . nice clean copy. no library markings or store stamps, no stickers or bookplates, no names, no inking , no underlining, no remainder markings etc ~. first edition. first printing (same date on title & copyright pg., no additional printings indicated). xxi+282p. select bibliographical reference list. index. biography. autobiography. memoirs. chinese history. chinese communist revolution. political philosophy. ~ From the time in 1925 when the young Wang Fan~hsi opted to support Ch'en Tu~hsiu's policies of active revolution and struggle against what he had called 'all those phenomena that can be described as hypocritical, conservative, passive, restrictive, privileged, conventional, ugly, detestable, combative, frictional, inert, gloomy, and oligarchic', Mr. Wang's life has been 'a hectic succession of strikes and violent polemics, of constant changes of name and alias, of feverish political writing and translating, of organizing and educating among the workers, and of long periods of incarceration in prisons and detention centres'. So writes Gregor Benton, translator of this unique record of China's Revolution from the viewpoint of one of its most faithful veterans. In Moscow, where he had been sent for training in 1927 by the Chinese Communist Party, Mr. Wang encountered Trotskyism. And it was as a Trotskyist that he was expelled from the Party. Six years after his imprisonment in 1931, Mr. Wang was released just as the Japanese armies arrived in Nanking; then, throughout the war and until his eventual exile in 1949, he continued to promulgate the Trotskyist heresy. It was in the 1950s that Mr. Wang's memoirs were published, in an edition of only twenty copies, to be read chiefly by those Trotskyists who had survived Mao Tse~tung's rise to power and moved over to Hong Kong. Now available for the first time to a wide English readership, these memoirs ~ remarkably empty of bitterness, replete with dispassionate observation ~ will be read with interest and compassion not only by students of Chinese affairs or of international communism (who will find them an incomparably valuable historical record) but also by all who recognize and admire integrity in strife and dignity in defeat. Wang Fan~hsi was born in 1907. His original memoirs, written and mimeographed in the haven of Macao, were reprinted in Hong Kong in 1978. Mr. Wang produced this revised account at his new home in England.…

hardcover. Condizione: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…
