Broché, couverture imprimée en noir sur fond blanc et illustrée en couleurs, in-8, 197x151 mm, ouvrage traduit de l'allemand par Aude Virey-Wallon, une planche dépliante hors texte [2 photographies en noir & blanc], quelques reproductions en noir dans le texte, bibliographie, très bon état. 64 pages. Harmodios et Aristogiton, tous deux morts en 514 avant J.-C., sont les tyrannoctones, assassins du Tyran athénien Hipparque. Les deux principales relations du meurtre sont celles de Thucydide (VI, 56-59) et de la Constitution d'Athènes (XVIII) attribuée à Aristote. Harmodios et Aristogiton sont traités comme des héros après la chute d'Hippias. Des statues en bronze, uvre d'Anténor, sont érigées en leur honneur sur l'agora à une date qui reste discutée. Pausanias comme Pline s'accordent à dire que ce sont les premières statues officielles de la cité. On identifie généralement deux statues du Musée national archéologique de Naples, trouvées à la villa Adriana, comme des copies du deuxième groupe. Elles représentent, légèrement plus grands que nature, à droite Harmodios, bras droit levé et tenant un poignard, prêt à frapper, et à gauche, Aristogiton tend en avant son bras gauche recouvert d'un manteau, sans doute pour se protéger, tandis que son bras droit, armé, est rejeté en arrière.
