A wonderful 1" bookstore tiny label to rear paste-down paper, from Lancaster, Pa. Author was a renowned British novelist and journalist who wrote mostly for young adults. Fabulous copy. Jacket is mylar protected.

First edition, later issue. Collab…orative romantic melodrama which tells the story of two orphans who triumph over ignorance and poverty and ultimately marry. Portions of the story, especially Mrs. Praed's section, "Some Evidence of Alfred Curran, News Paper Reporter, Concerning a Pair of True Lovers," are criminous. The tale appears to have been intended for young readers as the publisher's catalogue is a list of illustrated gift and prize books. Hubin (1994), p. 25. Owner's name and address on the front free endpaper. Slight spine lean, cloth just a bit dusty, spine panel stamping dull, corner tips a bit turned, a very good copy. Scarce. (#172468).
