Minor wear to the boards, with slight splits to the leading corners. 6cm split to the front spine side; smaller split on the rear spine side; this portion of the spine body has come loose from the head. Slight splits to the hinges. Penned note (dated 1909) on the reverse of FEP. Minor marks on the pages throughout. Good condition inside for age; the binding is sound, with clear text. CM. Used.

Boards with a few spots and stains; lightly rubbed, more heavily worn to edges; corners bumped; ends of spine crushed and starting to fray at head; spines slightly cocked. Endpapers toned and foxed. Ownership inscription (dated 1883) and bookseller's label to front free endpaper in Vol. I. Pages generally clean, with occasional light spotting; offsetting from bookmark to pp 152 and 153 in Vol. I. Both hinges cracking in Vol. II and just starting in Vol. I; gutters mildly cracked in a couple of places but leaves remain firmly bound in both volumes.
