Vossler, e da sempre ha attirato l'interesse degli studiosi di musica. In precedenza, però, fra il 1725 e il 1732 il cantante aveva scritto in forma di romanzo un'altra opera, Vita e viaggi, che viene pubblicata qui per la prima volta. Quasi metà delle memorie di Balatri riguarda i due anni (1699-1701) da lui trascorsi in Moscovia ed è ricca di osservazioni che interessano gli storici della Russia e delle riforme di Pietro il Grande; ma altrettanto curiose e ricche di interesse sono le descrizioni di altri viaggi, dall'Inghilterra, alle Fiandre e alla Baviera.".
