Schubart schreibt über ihn in seiner "Ästhetik der Tonkunst" (1784) "Filtz gehört unter die älteren Componisten des Mannheimer Orchesters, sein Geist und seine Arbeiten haben ihn längst unsterblich gemacht." Die Triosonate in F-Dur ist die fünfte der um 1775 in London erschienen 6 Sonaten, ein prächtiges frühklassisches Werk voller schöner musikalischer Einfälle.
