Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: As New. 1st Edition. An essential for all Powysians. A wonderfully large format stiff covered paperback, loaded with pictures and all of them entirely relevant. Superb edit of these wonderful dashed off scrawled entries in this odd man's life. Tea is taken, seemingly everywhere, and the lofty speculations about this and that often become charmingly Grossmith - here is a Diary Of A Nobody who was really all the time a SOMEBODY. Far too many exclamation marks! Too many ENEMAS! This is the voice of a wonderful lost man. If you know and love Powys you must have this. If you can't bear the man you ought to read this and see if you are justified in dismissing him. I love him.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: near fine. Inscribed first edition, first printing of The Sibling Society by Robert Bly. (illustratore). First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 319pp. Blue hardcover. Stated "first printing, March 1996" on copyright page. Appears unread. In the publisher's near fine dust jacket. With a long inscription by the author, thanking the recipient for their letter and commentary on the book. Inscription is dated 2005. A fine example. The Sibling Society deals with the question, where have all the grownups gone? "In answering that question with the same freewheeling erudition and intuitive brilliance that made Iron John a national bestseller, poet, storyteller and translator Robert Bly tells us that we live in a "sibling society, " in which adults have regressed into adolescence and adolescents refuse to grow up.". Limited first edition, first printing INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [i-xx], 1-676 pages plus fourteen unpaged illustrated leaves. Hardcover: H 24cm x L 16.25cm. No dust jacket as issued. Full red leather decorated with vibrant gilt stamping upon spine and boards; spine additionally embellished with three raised bands; minor soiling specks to boards. All edges gilt. Sewn-in red silk page marker. Dark red silk moire endpapers. Laid-in at front endpapers is publisher's foldout prospectus "Notes from the Editors | The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty" with front cover portrait of Welty by Caroline Edwards. Author's two-line ink inscription "For Carson and Marty | Eudora Welty" upon the second front flyleaf. Interior leaves are otherwise bright and clean. Binding remains crisp. A fine copy of an elegant book. Unique to this Franklin Library edition are "A special message to members of The First Edition Society" on page [vii] with facsimile signature of Eudora Welty at bottom right margin and fourteen leaves of b/w illustrations (rectos only) by Bernard Fuchs. Also includes author's Preface on pages [xvii-xix]. Bibliographical reference: #A27 in Noel Polk's EUDORA WELTY; A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF HER WORK. This Franklin Library copy is the true first edition, first printing of Welty's COLLECTED STORIES and precedes the limited edition as well as the standard trade edition issued by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc. Noel Polk indicates that The Franklin Library issued the book on October 10, 1980 whereas Harcourt did not "officially" release their trade edition (#A27:2) and their 500 copy limited signed edition (#A27:2c) until October 29, 1980. Polk was unable to determine the size of the Franklin print run but it was probably comparable to the Harcourt limited edition. The book's inscribees are Martha (Marty) Hollomon and Curtis Carson Holloman Jr. (1939-1991) who served on the English Department faculty at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. Please note that this thick book has an approximate shipping weight of 3.75 pounds (1.7 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail. {Lit Shelf #9|CMS-00985}.

Glossy pictorial cover. Condizione: Near fine. First edition, first printing of Astraea: The Balance of Illusions, A Poem Delivered Before The Phi Beta Kappa Society of Yale College, August 14, 1850 by Oliver Wendell Holmes. (illustratore). First Edition, First Printing. Small octavo, 39pp. Publisher's original glossy boards, title printed in black on front cover. BAL binding "A" with yellow endpapers and flyleaves. Solid text block, light rubbing to corners, faint soiling to boards. A near fine example. This is State B of the first printing, with an ampersand of the printer's imprint set above the type line, and signature mark "3" listed below the "ag" of the word "fragment" on page 33. (BAL 8757) Housed in a custom half-morocco slipcase with matching cloth chemise, title in gilt on spine. "Astraea" is a poem that reflects on the changing times and Oliver Wendell Holmes' nostalgia for the past. He uses the figure of Astraea, a Greek goddess of justice, to symbolize a bygone era of innocence and purity. The poem explores themes of loss and the contrast between the idealized past and the complex realities of the present. Holmes yearns for a return to a more idyllic time, suggesting that Astraea has left the earth, leaving behind a world that has lost its moral compass.

He went on to work for the Civil Service Commission, the U.S. State Department, and retired from the U.S. Information Agency in 1970. Eike joined the Virginia Society of Ornithology (VSO) in 1933, serving as president from 1950-1952 and again from 1969-1971. His fifty years of membership is commemorated with the James W.
