Early edition. Original heavy beige cloth with gilt titles to the spine, titles and an illustration printed in brown to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Deckled edges. Illustrated with fifteen colour plates by Frank Brangwyn mounted on heavy grey paper. Each page of text features a decorative border. A very good copy, the binding firm, the extremities slightly rubbed, the boards lightly bowed, the cloth clean. There is faint offsetting to the endpapers and a few light spots to the early and late pages, the contents are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that is toned to the spine, with a stain to the rear panel and a few short closed tears and chips to the edges. Uncommon in the dustwrapper. The Welsh painter Sir Frank Brangwyn (1867-1956) lends his rich, painterly hand to the much-illustrated 'Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyam' in this beautiful example of a golden age gift book.
