Aggiungi al carrelloHardback quarto, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), black & white text-photos, colour photos, maps, minor edgewear jacket (light toning reverse side), edges little foxed, corner tips rear cover slightly bumped. 128 pp. Shirley Fitzgerald, and Christopher Keating reveal the inner Sydney suburb of Millers Point. In 1826 John Leighton, known to Sydneysiders as Jack the Miller, plummeted to his death on the point of rocky land that still commemorates him. He was an ex-convict who had run three windmills on the heights of Millers Point which lay over the ridge from The Rocks. His untimely death helped to âfixâ the name of Millers Point, which became a village in the following decade. This wonderful book is for everyone from Sydney and those interested to find out the history of this city, and all the people who dream of making it even better. (This ISBN has two different cover designs. This copy: The later 'Sydney History Series' design.).

Aggiungi al carrello2nd ed. Paperback large wide octavo, very good condition, maps, black & white text-photos, glossy paper, adverts, bottom corner front cover lightly creased, minor edgewear. 144 pp. Shirley Fitzgerald relates how the story begins in convict times when William Chippendale shot a man for stealing his potato crop. This fertile and well watered area was coveted by industrialists who manufactured Sydney's sugar, beer and gin. Pollution, planning disasters, illegal subdivisions, substandard buildings, and floods poured filth into the unsewared slums, all contributing to degrade Chippendale throughout the 19th century. Chippendale today, cut off by busy thoroughfares between Central Station and Sydney University, attracts residents to quiet but cluttered streets because of its closeness to the city centre and educational institutions. The first volume in the Sydney History Project sponsored by the Council of the City of Sydney. (Originally published in 1990. This second edition, sponsored by the City of Sydney History Project, has been slightly revised and updated, and with a postscript added.).
