Highet, Juvenal the Satirist, Oxford, 1954, p. 303 does not add anything to what was already claimed to be evidence that Eugenius of Toledo was acquainted with Juvenals work. Eugenius 40.4 is compared with Juvenal 8.25 iustitiaeque tenax and Eugenius 77.3 is compared with Juvenal 9.124 utile consilium. Iustitiaeque tenax recalls Horace, Odes 3.3.1 iustum et tenacem propositi, Apul. Apol. 102 iustitiae pertinacem, Eutrop. 9.11.12 iusti tenax and Amm. Marc. 27.8.10 iusti tenacem ; and the expression utile consilium is found in Cic. De Off. 3.97, Livy 33.35.3, Vai. Max. 1.8.10, 6.5.ext.2, Curt. 7.4.14, Sen. De Ben. 6.33.1 and Mart. 5.9.18. There is better evidence than that. With Eugenius 4.3 Christum pectore gestat compare Juvenal 13.198 suum gesture in pectore testem and with Eugenius 7.10 castiget uentrem compare Juvenal 14.126 uentres modio castigat iniquo.
