This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition of images of the poet W.B.Yeats held at the Whitworth Art Gallery from 3 May to 3 June 1961, which then toured to the Building Centre in Dublin from 17 June to 1 July later the same year. The exhibition included portraitsof W.B.Yeats by artists such as Augustus John, as well as images of the people he knew and images of actors in costume in his theatrical productions such as "At the Hawks Well". Other images from inspirations for his work such as Byzantium and dance, as well as examples of various books by Yeats were also included in the exhibition.
