Aggiungi al carrelloOctavo, blue boards (hardcover), silver letters, 206 pp. Fine in a Fine dust jacket. From dust jacket: Ted Socker lived a charmed life. Trained at RAF Halton as one of Trenchard's 'Brats', a posting to Boscombe Down saw him fly in both the prototype Stirling and Halifax just as war engulfed Europe for the second time. Qualifying as one of the RAF's first flight engineers, he flew operations in 1941/42 with 35 and 102 Squadrons, a contemporary of Leonard Cheshire, helping with the often hair-raising task of converting pilots from two to four engines. On his return to 35, he became a pathfinder and flight engineer leader, taking part in virtually every major air battle of the war. Awarded the DFC in 1943, he was posted to 7 and then 582 Squadrons, going on to complete more than 100 bombing operations, often as a master bomber, and flying with some of the pathfinder 'greatest,' including Don Bennett himself. Although his aircraft was frequently hit, and he survived a crash landing on only his second trip, Ted was never wounded. His achievements were recognised with the Distinguished Service Order, the only known DSO issued to a flight engineer during the war or since. After the war, he flew with Bomber Harris on an tour of Brazil and later qualified as a pilot, introducing the Lockheed Neptune anti-submarine aircraft to the RAF for the first time as a flight commander with Coast Command. Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Very Good. Armstrong captured and condemned for involvement in the Rye House Plot against the monarchy. 10 pages, printed in double columns. Printed between 1809 and 1826, these historic documents are vivid extracts from Cobbett's State Trials; pages from the courtroom record that preserve the voices, arguments, and verdicts which helped shape the course of British justice and still echo through its constitutional legacy. Over two centuries old, each leaf is a tangible fragment of legal history, compelling, original, and rarely encountered outside institutional collections. These are not reprints or replicas, but authentic 19th-century printings that are rich in drama, and steeped in history. This particular trial report has been removed from a volume of Cobbett's State Trials and is now preserved in a modern card cover for practicality - an unassuming but serviceable presentation that favours function over finery. In 1985, as part of British Caledonian's strategy to link the World's oil capitals, it took over British Airways' highly lucrative routes to Dhahran and Jeddah (31 Mar), and became the first UK airline licensed to serve Riyadh (10 Aug), making it the sole UK flag carrier to Saudi Arabia. This set includes in-house briefing documents showing BCal's wish to make this new service a success, going to great lengths to emphasise cultural understanding of Saudis, and prepare for "over exuberant" expats returning home from Eastern Province. These are extremely rare, with instruction to destroy all previous issues of the Brief. Also included are contemporary documents promoting the new passenger and cargo services. (1) CABIN CREW BRIEF (15 & 19 Mar 1985): Stapled A4, (2)pp Title and distribution; 16, (1)pp Brief with map; 6, (2)pp Route Station Instructions Jeddah with 2 plans; 5pp Route Station Instructions Dhahran (no plans present or called for). Good. Distributed to the Operations Director, IFS, cabin crew, airport, fleet, and route managers, duty free, sales, in-flight admin and training, among others. It states "Many of our passengers will live and work under difficult circumstances and it is essential that we understand them [and] the ethnic / cultural differences involved in this operation" (p10). The 11 strong cabin crew included one floating Arabic speaker. The Brief contains announcements, guidelines, and firm warnings regarding alcohol, food and drink, dress, the Umrah Zone, Ramadan, newspapers and magazines, and photography. The cultural significance of Arabic coffee is explained, with elaborately detailed serving instructions in 8 steps. An Arabic music programme replaces C&W. Passengers wishing to pray should be offered a blanket and not disturbed. Male cabin crew should only address the husband, etc. There is a list of useful Arabic words and phrases, and partial list of manufacturers boycotted in KSA. The Route Station Instructions detail management, functions, layout, and facilities at King Abdul Aziz and Dhahran International Airports with notes on prohibited items, hotels, and the UK Ambassador. Plans show Jeddah's North Terminal, and a Saudi Defence Ministry birds eye view of Principle Buildings and Road Systems. // (2) DHAHRAN CREW INFORMATION SHEET (nd, c Mar 1985): stapled A4. (1), 3pp. VG. Cover letter "Welcome to Saudi Arabia" from Bert Le Vesconte, Airport Manager, Dhahran, on BCAL headed paper, emphasises the profitability and great importance of the new Jeddah and Dhahran routes, identifies ex-pat staff in Eastern Province, warns of over-exuberant ex-pats returning home, and the need to "control the over zealous". The Information Sheet gives details for outbound Flight BR433, with guidelines for Arrival, Departure, and Flight Crew. A long list of Special Notes covers cultural sensitivities relating to photography, dress, females, etc, with useful contacts, health, and hotels. // (3) AT YOUR SERVICE IN THE KSA (c1985): A4 glossy card wraps, (20)pp English and Arabic texts, colour photos including Saudi royal portraits, double-page commuter route map, offices, history of BCAL, senior staff, and new services. Fine. // (4) BCAL - A BETTER WAY TO THE MIDDLE EAST (1985): A4 glossy colour card flyer, (2)pp advertising 19 non-stop services weekly to Dhahran, Jeddah, and Dubai commencing 31 Mar 1985, offices, and a map. Near Fine. // (5) BCAL'S WORLD - THE MIDDLE EAST (7-86): A4, 6pp announcing cargo routes connecting London to Dhahran, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dubai, and Muscat, with US Gateways, colour illustrated with 4 maps.
