Hier wird nun untersucht, welches Kriegsbild diese Texte an ihre Leserschaft vermittelten. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die folgenden Fragen: Wandelte sich die idealisierte Kriegsdarstellung der imperialistisch geprägten Romane aus den Jahrzehnten vor dem ersten Weltkrieg durch die Ereignisse des industrialisierten Stellungskrieges? Findet sich der oft postulierte Umbruch zu einer desillusionierten Kriegeserinnerung auch in der Gattung der Kinder- und Jugendromane wieder? Es zeigt sich, dass sich die Kriegs- und Abenteuerromane für Kinder und Jugendliche unter dem Eindruck des ersten Weltkriegs kaum veränderten. Auch die Texte der 1920er und 1930er Jahre vermittelten den jungen Lesern weiterhin ein heroisches, beschönigtes Kriegsbild.
