Then both will evolve differently, Magritte joining the surrealism and Flouquet remaining faithful to the pure plastic.Flouquet became known in modernist circles with works of a new spirit to the border of Cubism and Futurism. In 1920 he participates in the exhibition "Exposition Internationale d'Art Moderne" in Geneva. In 1922 he launches the magazine "Ca Ira" together with K. Maes, G. Monnier and the brothers Bourgeois. Et un article sur les "Poètes blancs d'Amérique". Traductions de poèmes de Langston Hughes, Claude Mac Kay, William Carlos Williams. L'origine du J…ournal des Poètes remonte au mois de février 1931 lorsque quelques poètes belges de langue française Pierre Bourgeois, Maurice Carême, Georges Linze, Géo Norge et Edmond Vandercammen eurent l'idée de créer une revue exclusivement consacrée à la poésie. Pour la diriger, ils songèrent à Pierre-Louis Flouquet. Né en 1900, de nationalité française, mais établi depuis longtemps à Bruxelles, à la fois peintre il partagea un atelier avec Magritte et poète, Flouquet n'était pas un néophyte en matière de revues. À Paris, en 1921, il a donné quelques dessins à Aventure, l'éphémère mensuel de René Crevel. Toujours dans les années 1920, mais à Bruxelles cette fois, il co-dirige 7 Arts et participe au groupe de la Lanterne sourde de Paul Vanderborght8. Surtout, à nouveau à Paris, il est le directeur artistique de Monde, de 1928, année de la fondation par Henri Barbusse de cet « hebdomadaire d'information littéraire, artistique, scientifique et sociale », à 1930, lorsqu'il démissionne il aurait refusé de s'affilier au parti communiste et prend la direction de la revue bruxelloise d'architecture Bâtir. En dépit de sa jeunesse, Flouquet pouvait donc se targuer d'une réelle expérience dans le domaine de l'édition. Homme de réseau, bien introduit dans le monde littéraire belge et français, il possédait assurément toutes les qualités pour mener à bien le projet que Norge et ses amis lui avaient confié. Publié d'avril 1931 à décembre 1935 sous la forme d'un hebdomadaire, le Journal des Poètes fut remplacé en 1936 par le Courrier des poètes, une revue à la périodicité irrégulière, ainsi que par la série des « Cahiers du Journal des Poètes », une collection de volumes de poésie dont la parution fut interrompue en décembre 1942. En 1946, le Journal reparut mensuellement et devint, à partir du début des années 1950, l'organe officiel des Biennales internationales de Poésie alors organisées au casino de Knokke-Le-Zoute1. Il est aujourd'hui édité quatre fois par an sous l'égide de la Maison Internationale de la Poésie Arthur-Haulot de Namur, ce qui en fait l'une des plus anciennes revues littéraires belges francophones. Loin de se borner aux seuls écrivains de langue française, le Journal des Poètes manifesta d'emblée un intérêt peu commun pour les littératures étrangères et se constitua en un observatoire de la poésie internationale. On ne saurait énumérer ici toutes les littératures étrangères qui bénéficièrent de son hospitalité tant elles sont nombreuses : résolument éclectique, la revue accueillit des auteurs du monde entier. La seule restriction fut d'ordre chronologique : si l'hebdomadaire publia parfois des vers de grands classiques, Hölderlin, Góngora, Blake, il s'intéressa surtout à la production contemporaine.
