Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the Catholic reaction that spread through Europe in response to the Enlightenment, a philosophical movement that promoted reason and challenged religious authority. Starting in France around the turn of the 19th century, the Catholic reaction aimed to revitalize traditional Catholic beliefs and practices, inspiring movements in other countries like England and Germany. The book explores the complex interconnections between literature, politics, and religion, examining the ideas and impact of influential figures like Chateaubriand, Lamennais, Montalembert, Newman, and Manning. By tracing the evolution of the Catholic reaction, the book illuminates its enduring influence on religious thought and its role in shaping modern Catholicism.
