Doran PLACE : New York City DETAILS : Contains numerous illustrations (including ads); volume pages 241 - 368 (144 pages) + LXIV (64) pages of front and back material ; 6 1/2" x 9 1/2", printed greenish-blue wraps with black lettering ( glue, thread & two staples ) CONDITION -- FAIR ONLY --This is a previously owned periodical that is in rough condition, else complete and serviceable, with the following details noted :: EXTERIOR - The spine is creased and cracked, with considerable loss of paper at the extremities. One can see that there has been mending effected to the spine surface and joints. Printed in pencil along the spine length is "MY DEAR MENCKEN". Cover edges are considerably worn, with various nicks, tears, and loss. The front cover surface is fairly clear, while the back cover has clear tape mending, weathering, staining and what seems to be foxing. Text-block edges are darkened. BINDING - One can easily see that the binding has been mended at its hinges, however, while the leaves open widely, no leaves are detached or loose. INTERIOR - On the bottom leaf fore-edges are fairly dark stains with tide-lines that extend upward on each page - to about 3 1/2"at the last page, and then diminishing as one leafs inward (from page XXVI to the end). Scattered foxing and or spotting (most obviously on those leaves closest to the covers); weathering along the edges; soft bumps to corner tips, with dog-eared tips scattered through. Paper is toned. There are a few pencil erasures, else the interior is free of marking. As I said above, the issue is rough but quite serviceable.
