Aggiungi al carrelloLeather. Condizione: Good. An illustrated edition of the classic collection of Middle Eastern Folktales, with engravings by Royal Academy painter Robert Smirke. An illustrated edition of the The Arabian Nights' Entertainments, the classic collection of folktales originating from the Medieval Middle East, translated by Rev. Edwar…d Forster, with revisions by George Moir Bussey. Published in 1840, with Forster's first edition published in 1802. In half calf. Contains a frontispiece, and twenty-two other engraved plates by Royal Academy painter Robert Smirke. The Merchant and Genie plate appears missing. Believed to have originated in the Medieval period and later brought to Europe in 1704, the Arabian Nights remain among the most popular folktale collections recorded, including the Sinbad, Aladdin and Ali Baba among many others. Smirke's engravings compliment the romantic nature of the stories. In half calf. Externally, the odd fading patch and graze to marble boards, with cracking to the front joint. Rubbing the edges, lighter to rear joint, and minor wear to spine label. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. End papers are generally bright and clean with the odd faint spot. Internally, firmly bound. Second plate appears missing. Pages are mostly bright and clean, with slight spotting to first and last leaves, and to plate extremities. Good. R. Smirke (illustratore). book.
