His father died in 1934 leaving Toulo well off and it wasn't long before he bought his first racing car, an Alfa Romeo1750 Zagato. He raced extensively from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1962 he created the Club des Anciens Pilotes de Grand Prix de F1 with his friends, Fangio and Chiron, becoming President following the passing of Louis Chiron.
