In seinen zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten befaßte sich Fraenkel vor allem mit dem Problem der Wundinfektion sowie mit der Karzinomerforschung und -bekämpfung. Durch ein Vierteljahrhundert war Fraenkel Schriftleiter der "Wiener klinische Woche" und engagierte sich auch als Schriftführer der "Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Erforschung und Bekämpfung der Krebskrankheit". In diesem Zusammenhang steht auch die Abfassung seiner Monographie "Das Problem der Krebskrankheit" (1911)." wikiwien.

Fraenkel (1853-1925 in Hamburg) arbeitete als Pathologe und Bakteri…ologe am an die Universität Hamburg angeschlossenen Eppendorfer Krankenhaus, wo er den Gasbrandbazillus (Bacillus' fraenkeli, später auf Clostridium perfringens umbenannt) entdeckte. Alexander Lorey (1880-1949) Radiologe und Hochschullehrer. Er sah die Radiologie als Sonderfach, vernachlässigte aber weder die klinischen noch die pathologischen Bezüge. Mit Ausnahme der Chirurgen kamen täglich alle Fachvertreter zu klinisch-radiologischen Konferenzen in sein Institut. Wissenschaftlich befasste er sich mit dem Röntgen-Thorax, der Möller-Barlow-Krankheit, der kongenitalen Syphilis, der Albers-Schönberg-Erkrankung und der Bronchographie.
