New half goatskin and marbled boards by the artisan binder Sasha Mosalov. The Venetian painter Piazzetta (1682-1754) executed commissions for various Venetian and foreign nobles, many of whom are named in the list of subscribers. Ravà, Marco Pitteri incisore veneziano [1922].Summary NoteThe text consists of fifteen chapters on the art of painting: Delle qualità convenienti ad un Giovanetto voglioso di apprendere la Pittura; Della elezione del Maestro; Come lo Scolare s'abbia a contenere col Maestro; Della utilità del Copiare de opere de' gran Maestri; Del Colorito; Di quanto sia necessario il valersi del vero; Della Teorica, e della Pratica; Della Simmetria; Della Notomia; Della Prospettiva; Della Invenzione; Della Disposizione; Degli Affetti; Del Costume; Della Grazia. The first forty-eight plates form pairs, each pair showing one composition in two manners of representation. In Pitteri Piazzetta had one of the most able etchers of his chalk drawings. Pitteri adopts Faldoni's method of etching long parallel lines and by selectively exaggerating their raggedness imbues them with great subtlety. The book is a tribute from Albrizzi to Piazzetta, who had provided illustrations for more than sixty of Albrizzi's publications, most famously the Gerusalemme Liberata of 1745.…
