The 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry (also called the Anderson Cavalry) was an independent mounted regiment that began service in the East around Antietam and then spent most of the war attached to the Army of the Cumberland, performing scouting, escort, courier, and raid duties. The narrative follows the men through Stones River, the Tullahoma campaign, Chickamauga, the siege and battles around Chattanooga, operations in East Tennessee and Alabama, and the closing 1865 cavalry movements that culminated in the pursuit of Jefferson Davis. The book is richly illustrated with photographs, portraits, drawings, and folding maps and includes a muster roll and index. Civil War bibliographer Allan Nevins called it ?a unique and valuable unit history? too often underrated.? Original printed wrappers, 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", 102 pp. + unpaginated photographic plates, features and ads, including a plate fold-out with two panoramic wide angles, from Mount Hamilton, by William H. Wright. Very Good plus, really quite close to near fine; the major flaw being the common one that circuit binding (yapp binding) was used, in which cover edges were intentionally extended out beyond page edges, but over time the extended part becomes pressed inward somewhat (see scan).
